Polynomial Kernels for Deletion to Classes of Acyclic Digraphs

چکیده
We consider the problem to find a set X of vertices (or arcs) with |X| ≤ k in a given digraph G such that D = G − X is an acyclic digraph. In its generality, this is Directed Feedback Vertex Set or Directed Feedback Arc Set respectively. The existence of a polynomial kernel for these problems is a notorious open problem in the field of kernelization, and little progress has been made. In this paper, we consider both deletion problems with an additional restriction on D, namely that D must be an out-forest, an out-tree, or a (directed) pumpkin. Our main results show that for each of these three restrictions the vertex deletion problem remains NP-hard, but we can obtain a kernel with kO(1) vertices on general digraphs G. We also show that, in contrast to the vertex deletion problem, the arc deletion problem with each of the above restrictions can be solved in polynomial time. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F2.2 Nonnumerical Algorithms and Problems

Kernels for Deletion to Classes of Acyclic Digraphs
In the Directed Feedback Vertex Set (DFVS) problem, we are given a digraph D on n vertices and a positive integer k and the objective is to check whether there exists a set of vertices S of size at most k such that F = D−S is a directed acyclic digraph. In a recent paper, Mnich and van Leeuwen [STACS 2016 ] considered the kernelization complexity of DFVS with an additional restriction on F , na...
متن کاملAlgorithmic Properties of Sparse Digraphs
The notions of bounded expansion [49] and nowhere denseness [51], introduced by Nešetřil and Ossona de Mendez as structural measures for undirected graphs, have been applied very successfully in algorithmic graph theory. We study the corresponding notions of directed bounded expansion and nowhere crownfulness on directed graphs, as introduced by Kreutzer and Tazari in [41]. These classes are ve...
متن کاملPushing vertices in digraphs without long induced cycles
Given a digraph D and a subset X of vertices of D, pushing X in D means reversing the orientation of all arcs with exactly one end in X. It is known that the problem of deciding whether a given digraph can be made acyclic using the push operation is NP-complete for general digraphs, and polynomial time solvable for multipartite tournaments. Here, we continue the study of deciding whether a digr...
متن کاملTHE RELATION BETWEEN TOPOLOGICAL ORDERING AND ADJACENCY MATRIX IN DIGRAPHS
In this paper the properties of node-node adjacency matrix in acyclic digraphs are considered. It is shown that topological ordering and node-node adjacency matrix are closely related. In fact, first the one to one correspondence between upper triangularity of node-node adjacency matrix and existence of directed cycles in digraphs is proved and then with this correspondence other properties of ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Sentinel-1 Interferometric SAR Coherence efficiency for Land Cover Mapping
In this study, the capabilities of Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) time series data and machine learning have been evaluated for land cover mapping in Iran. In this way, a time series of Sentinel-1 SAR data (including 16 SLC images with approximately 24 days time interval) from 2018 to 2020 were used for a region of Ahvaz County located in Khuzestan province. Using InSAR proces...
